About Claire

Born in New York’s Manhattan and raised in Chicago (Hyde Park) and Evanston. IL

BACKGROUND: Steeped in Architecture and contemporary Design since childhood, entered Northwestern University to major in social sciences — became entranced by design projects on display while taking 3D art class, leaped into the world of Art, Art History & Design.

Graduated with B.A. in Art with Specialization in Interior Architecture and Design. Worked in design field in Residential and Contract firms as design assistant, also learning resources, space planning, contract writing and bookkeeping.

Claire Golan & Associates became official in 1974.

CV: NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) qualified since 1977. Registered Professional Interior Designer in Illinois since 1993, the 1st year the profession was licensed in the state.

Professional Member of American Society of Interior Designers since 1977.  Previously Associate (now called “Allied”) and Student member.  Committee Chairman for ASID Illinois Chapter and currently sitting on the Advocacy Committee, This committee works in conjunction with the Illinois Interior Design Coalition (IIDC).  IIDC is an organization of Illinois Architects and Interior Designers that encourages Designers to become qualified to become Registered IL Interior Designers and to continue practicing their profession alongside their colleagues in related design and construction fields.  In order to qualify they must study design at a recognized school plus they must work within the industry following their education.

Produced several spaces for ASID Designer Showcase Houses including (but not exclusively)  a study, game/playroom, exercise room,  a (very dressy) sitting room and home beauty salon.

Lifetime Member of Cambridge’s Who’s Who of Executives, Professionals & Entrepreneurs; Member of National Association of Professional Women

Coursework in Green Design for LEED Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) & considering certification with IACC (International Association of Color Consultants) and Certification in California.
